Accidents from landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) can be prevented when everyone in the community knows what to look for and what to do. TDA has delivered Mine Risk Education (MRE) with the Thailand Mine Action Center (TMAC) since 2010.
If you find a suspicious object, remember 4 steps
1. Stop
Stop at once. Do not step forward and do not run.
2. Don’t touch
Never touch, move, kick, throw or burn the object.
3. Go back the way you came
Step back slowly in your own footprints and remember the spot.
4. Report it
Tell the village head, the police (call 191) or the local military unit immediately.

Warning signs to know
- Red skull-and-crossbones signs saying “Danger Mines” mark areas you must never enter.
- Red triangles on the ground mark landmines found by clearance teams.
- Red or red-and-white tape or rope marks the work area boundary. Do not cross or remove it.
- Local signs such as piles of stones, knotted branches or tied bunches of grass may mean danger.
Safety tips for border communities
- Use paths that the community uses every day. Do not leave the path.
- Teach children that strange metal or plastic objects in the forest or fields are not toys.
- Never collect scrap metal from suspected areas to sell.
- Before burning or ploughing new land, ask community leaders or local authorities.
Downloadable learning materials (posters, leaflets and school materials) will be added to this page soon.
