On 27th April 2010, Mr. Amornchai Sirisai President of the Thai Civilian Deminer Association: TDA (second from left) made a courtesy visit to Khun Phasana Puthikampol (third from left) the Director of Peace, Security and Disarmament Division, Department of International Organizations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Two staffs of the Division who are responsible for mine actions; Khun Jirusaya Birananda (first right) and Khun Tirta Charoenbhol (first left), also attended in that courtesy visit.
Background of the TDA and its past activities as well as tentatively future programs were introduced to the Director and her staffs. Mr. Amornchai Sirisai also told that TDA was established as permanent home for about 35 deminers who have been engaging in landmine clearance and land released survey in Thailand for at least 6 years, and who have also shared common ideology that is getting rid of all landmines from Thailand under brotherhood coexist and manner. He asked for kind support from the Division to help coordinate with outside donors for landmine clearance budget, as Thailand needs to clear high priority minefields.
Director Phasana expressed her interest in landmine clearance in Thailand that would help prevent innocent people from unexpected landmine accident. She would be willing to help seek landmine clearance budget when TDA can come up with clear and reasonable proposal for donors. In this regard, Mr. Amornchai told that TDA had formed proposal for landmine clearance to highest priority minefields at border areas with Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia. He explained the necessity of clearance of those minefields to the Director and her team. Khun Jirusaya encouraged TDA to emphasize clearance operation at border area with Laos PDR because there is one certain area that would be developed as border crossing pass (Chong Pu Du minefield). She mentioned that the collaboration with neighbor country in term of landmine clearance would be good, creating good network of landmine clearance in this region. Mr. Amornchai agreed to follow her idea and would try to form clearance proposal for that border area.
